Pencil Tip Micro Sculptures By Dalton Ghetti

pencilleadsculptures-1

Brazilian born, Connecticut based, Dalton Ghetti carefully crafts the tips of pencils into amazing micro sculptures. These miniature masterpieces are a side project for the professional carpenter, who has been perfecting this art for the last 25 years. Dalton uses a razor blade, sewing needle, a sculpting knife, a steady hand and lots of patience to meticulously carve the graphite which can take anywhere between a few months to a few years. Over time he has broken many works in progress and keeps them in what he calls the cemetery collection. One of the most fascinating things about these tiny works of art is that he has never sold them, only given away to friends as gifts.

That is freaking awesome! You are so wonderfully talented. I HEART artists and people who have BUNDLES of patience, because that is what it takes – along with a lot of love – to produce these babies! You must be so proud of yourself, as you should! LOVE!

  5. jordan

I am an elementary classroom teacher . I saw the exhibit at the New Britain Museum of Art and bought post cards of the pencils to show my students. They were enthralled. Is someone going to make a poster of these treasures? Many teachers would love them.

  7. Mike

Omg this is like… gah I can't stand it. Just the thought that I would lose it real quick. Makes me sick.

  8. Ingrid Blanco

I was forwarded an email featuring your work from a friend in the south of France. Being something of a Europhile, I immediately thought, of course, a Frenchman had this idea. When I got to the end of the site and saw that you live in Connecticut, I was delighted. We are practically neighbors. Like so many others, I was taken with your work and I was also impressed by the fact that you don't sell it. At the risk of attempting to corrupt you, however, if you ever decide to sell your corkscrew pencil, please keep me in mind. With admiration, Ingrid Blanco

I really can't believe these amazing sculptures. I would love to see them at a show. Where are they exhibited besides Conn? I live in NC and part of the winter in Charleston SC . Thank you for this awesome sharing of your art.

Wow. Stunning work, your patience must be never-ending. Wow. And did I say wow?

  13. Sherry

Why doesn't he sell them? Because there isn't enough money in the world to buy this kind of talent. His work is phenomenal! I wish I was one of his friends. Having a piece of his work would be a blessing.

  14. Chris

It´s a gift too every person who loves the beauty of the work of a man´s hand.

  15. Phil "G - Boy" Reed

Relax everyone, we all know they're just giant pencils!!!

  16. Alicia

I wish he would sell them! I would buy one or more than one. You could mount them in a frame on the wall. How lovely. As a writer it would be the perfect office art to show what a pencil can do: on and off the page.

Wonder what the Art establishment has to say about this talent
and his use of unconventional raw material to such jaw dropping effect..

  27. Judy Hovden

I am wondering if this amazing artist uses carpenter pencils which are bigger around with larger graphite lead; but non-the-less, this is artistry is of a magnitude almost unimaginable, even after having seen the sculptures..

  28. Monica

I have a box of neat old advertising pencils that my grandmother collected in upstate NY. Now I know what to do with them! Dalton if you want them contact me at monicaparish@comcast.net and I will send them to you-free of course!

As I view these incredible works of art, I wondered if Mr. Ghetti is in danger of harmful side affects due to his lead exposure? Such talent. I hope he is not going to be harmed by lead exposure through the skin? If that is even possible? Thanks Mr. Ghetti for your wonderful contribution. Bless you.

    Ghettism

Manual dexterity of such high quality as to leave the observer speechless with admiration. The word is derived from the work of Donald Ghetti, a micro sculptor who's works are created from pencil leads.

I am AWED by Dalton Ghetti's work. I've sat here at my computer and looked at his exquisite miniatures, countless times, and I am no less appreciative each time. Harron Kelner, Sherman Oaks, California.

My husband and I met him during a signing at the New Britain Museum of American Art (in CT). He's a really nice guy, down to earth and with a great sense of humor. He never uses magnification for his work, which blew me away. Also, he said he will never sell any of his art to private collectors because he wants to make sure it can always be enjoyed by everyone in museums. I highly recommend seeing his work if you ever get the chance!!

    • Erynn Vance

wow that is amazing im surprized with the amout of detail to it that he didn't use magnifacation of any type..it would be so hard to carve lead its so delicate
