Featured in the new Kidrobot x City Cryptid Dunny Art Mini Series, artist Chris Ryniak is jumping in the fun and was nice enough to answer a few different questions about himself and his piece in the new City Cryptid Dunny Art Mini Series. Check it out!
- Have you always wanted to be an artist? YES! It’s the only thing I know how to do. I can bake and eat cookies pretty well too though.
- What was your life dream when you were a child? To be a monster maker for movies. Now I’m just a monster maker, so things worked out pretty well.
- What did Scott Tolleson say that convinced you to be a part of the Kidrobot City Cryptid Mini Series? He told me there would be free cookies involved. Also, he’s handsome and persuasive.
- Do you believe in monsters? Ghosts? Real monsters and ghosts, no, I’m too boring and rational. But nobody WANTS to believe more than me.
- What’s one of your favorite fictional characters? I really love Prince Nuada from Hellboy 2. He’s a complicated villain that has a lot of heart. His design is really elegant, but he’s a fierce warrior.
- This isn’t your first toy with Kidrobot is it? How has your art changed since the first one? I think My characters have gotten a little bit cuter, more friendly and more fun.
- Tell us a little bit about the Bindlewood shops.. Bindlewood is the official online retail shop for me and my wife, Amanda Louise Spayd. We sell apparel, stickers, coloring books, pins, original art, toys and limited edition figures. We have crazy monthly sales of resin figures and originals that sell-out in minutes!
- Tell us a little bit about Mothman… what’s his personality like? Does he have a real name? it seems he is a superhero…what crime fighting would we see him do? How does he fit in with the rest of city Cryptid? His name said it all to me… MOTH-MAN, it already sounded like a superhero, so I just went with it. I like to think he’s fighting against bug-zappers and Mothballs.
- Why a moth? Because if he was a Butterfly, he’d be ButterflyMan.
- What’s your favorite thing about the City Cryptid Monthman? I’m really happy with how the wings turned out. The translucent material they are made of gives the figure more dimension than just opaque plastic would have.
