Mitch McGee’s newest works with wood really pop as well as show props to the pioneers of Pop Art. Inspired by the likes of Lichtenstein and Oldenburg, the Houston artist takes it a step further as he hand cuts, sands, and stains sheets of birch wood to create multi-layered compositions. Described as part painting, part sculpture, McGee finds gratification in the time it takes to produce while watching the layers build up. From the initial sketch to the final framing, these laborious pieces take around 35-40 hours to complete.
